Reading works-in-progress is a privilege. I'm always excited to learn how a writer finds the shape of a poem. I value active reading towards intention, possibility, and engagement. when I'm reading a poem-in-progress I am listening for what's stated, but also for what the speaker hasn't been able to say — yet.
When we work together we'll pay attention to craft elements, like form, register, and figurative language. Together we'll also consider how your work engages with the world: this may look like considering what poetic lineage your work is in conversation with, or by creating a reading list that speaks to the questions contained in your writing.
I offer a sliding scale for Indigenous writers.
